Audiqueen is very suitable for integration into your Electronic Medical Record (EMR). You would typically open your patient’s file in the EMR and find an Audiqueen button using which you open the same patient’s Audiqueen record.
For EMR connection, Audiqueen offers 2 approaches:
- Context integration (see also Audiqueen Context Integration Manual for details)
- HL7 (see Audiqueen HL7 Integration Installation Manual for details)
Context integration is simpler, but perhaps not the preferred choice for your IT staff. In brief, they create an Audiqueen button or menu item in the EMR and this button launches AUDIQUEEN with a few arguments, like patient number, first name, gender, and DOB. Clicking this button opens AUDIQUEEN with the updated patient data.
The HL7 integration is more complex for your IT staff to implement, it looks the same for the end user it comes with a few advantages, mainly:
- If 2 patients' records are merged in the EMR, AUDIQUEEN also merges them
- AUDIQUEEN can 'dump' results (as pdf files) to the EMR; some hospitals like to have this as a kind of backup procedure, but one can question how useful this is. After all, the clinician will never use these pdf's (he/she would need to retrieve them out of a forest of documents in Epic) and the AUDIQUEEN database (SQL) should be backed up by the hospital's daily backup procedure, so there should be no risk of data loss.
Audiqueen can be set up to listen for HL7 messages.
- Patient Merge using HL7 ADT A40
- Patient Demographics using HL7 ADT A01, A04, A08, A28, A31, or SIU S12, S13, S14
- Patient Query: ADR A19
Should you decide to start with context integration, it remains always possible to move to HL7 at any moment in time.
